New Delhi: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has successfully trained more than 2,500 women under its flagship initiative, the Yashoda AI Literacy Program, since its launch in May 2025.
Recognized as India’s first dedicated AI literacy initiative for women, the Yashoda AI Abhiyan – short for Your AI SAKHI for Shaping Horizons with Digital Awareness – aims to equip women with the knowledge and skills to navigate an increasingly AI-integrated digital world.
The program especially focuses on rural and semi-urban populations, empowering them to adopt safe online practices, understand digital privacy, and counter AI-driven cyber threats.

Empowering Rural India through AI Education
The Yashoda AI Literacy Program has provided training to a wide spectrum of women, including:
- Self-Help Group (SHG) members
- ASHA workers and healthcare staff
- Local elected representatives such as Sarpanchs, Mayors, MLAs, and Parshads
- Micro-entrepreneurs, teachers, students, and police officers
- Government officials and administrators
The announcement was made in the Rajya Sabha by Minister of State for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur, in response to a parliamentary question.
Core Components of the Yashoda AI Literacy Program:
- Awareness sessions on AI-powered online threats and misinformation
- Workshops on digital privacy, cyber hygiene, and safe browsing
- Leadership development modules for women in education and public service
- Hands-on AI learning experiences to build confidence and digital resilience

Developed in partnership with Future Shift Labs, the Yashoda AI campaign demonstrates the potential of public-private collaboration in making AI education inclusive and equitable.
The initiative strongly aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Viksit Bharat vision, where technology serves as a tool for social justice, equity, and empowerment.
India’s leadership in responsible AI has already been highlighted on the global stage, including its active participation at the Global Summit on AI Governance in Paris. The Yashoda AI Literacy Program further reinforces the country’s commitment to inclusive and ethical AI integration.
